Our Story

A Town Shaped
by the River

The name itself tells the story. French fur traders moving up the White River in the 1820s looked up at the towering bluffs on the north bank and saw something familiar — wide bands of blue, black, gray, red, and orange running through the stone, alternating like the stripes of calico cloth. They called them the "calico rocks," and the name has never left.

From that steamboat landing on the river's edge, Calico Rock grew into a railroad boomtown, a hub for timber, mining, and trade, and a community shaped by the rugged Ozark Mountains and the people who chose to call it home. Today that spirit endures — a place where natural beauty, hometown pride, and deep heritage make Calico Rock as vivid as the cliffs that gave it its name.
